The Scene

Step into the milk-blue, Brit-pop-filled F&B during peak hours and the business feels like a kinder, gentler version of Soup Kitchen International. The space is designed to accommodate as much human traffic as possible, with seating at small stools along the foot-wide countertops along the walls. Service is prompt and cheery--a manager breezes around the room, delivering orders and clearing plates with a rare sort of prideful alacrity.

The Food

Any questions as to the source of F&B's popularity are immediately answered upon biting into a hot dog. Try the Great Dane, an imported Danish dog with a snappy casing and a garlicky bite, or a boiled Top Dog, smothered in winey sauerkraut and bacon with a cooking school-smooth squiggle of mustard. Best of all are the prices--six bucks and change buys a dog, a hot carton of crunchy, golden pommes frites (you can upgrade to sweet potato frites or combine both with onion rings in the delicious Mixed Bag) and a cool cup of lemonade or iced tea.
