Theater District: The Best of NYC Dining - RestaurantThe Sea GrillOne of the city's best seafood restaurants in a quintessential New York setting.
The SceneEverything is lighter at the newly refurbished Sea Grill: the fabrics, the colors, the food, even the prices. This is one of New York's fabled dining rooms, facing the golden sculpture of Prometheus atop Rockefeller Center's winter ice rink. In summer, choice seats are set outside. For a major tourist destination the dining room does not feel all that touristy, especially in the evening when the lights soften and the pace eases. The FoodCelebrity chef Edward Brown is a fervent minimalist when it comes to seafood. He demonstrates that simplicity can be serene with combinations like meaty John Dory riding a swell of sweet pepper ragout; pristine sea scallops, perfectly seared, with truffled mashed potatoes; and golden North Atlantic cod, energized by a puddle of Chinese fermented black bean sauce, along with couscous and orange lentils. Side dishes are a la carte but terrific, and you'd be hard-pressed to find a better clam chowder in town. The Wine ListThe Sea Grill's wine list is intelligently chosen to complement all kinds of seafood. Ask one of the knowledgeable captains for a reasonably priced recommendation. Skate with SkateNearly all tables afford a view of Rockefeller Plaza, which turns into a rush-hour skating rink in winter. It is still a good idea to request a window table. 19 W 49th St |
