Location Union Square/Murray Hill (New York)
201 E 24th St General information![]() What to expect: Totally remodeled and reopened in 2000, this small hotel with high style has a streamlined teak lobby with abstract murals and chic minimalist furnishings. Rooms are cleverly planned to maximize space. The Marcel has quickly become a favorite with travelers from the U.S. and abroad, particularly from the worlds of fashion, film, and the arts. Amenity highlights: Guests can help themselves at the all-day, self-service cappuccino bar in the lobby. Faxing, copying, and cell phone rental are available at the front desk. Besides an on-site fitness room, privileges are offered at a larger health club across the street for a fee. The library/breakfast room off the lobby, with Saarinen and Knoll-designed furnishings, is available for private meetings. Insider tip: The Flatiron District, named for a triangular-shaped building at 23rd Street where Broadway and Fifth Avenue meet, has become one of New York's most popular dining and shopping centers. Designer boutiques have blossomed on Fifth Avenue in the upper teens and twenties, and restaurants such as Craft, Fleur de Salle, and the long-established Gramercy Tavern are among current favorites. Property amenitiesThe comfortable sitting room-style lobby invites lingering, with ample seating, good lighting, and a cappuccino machine at hand. Translation is one of the services available from the helpful, multilingual staff. Nearby parking available: Policies Queen bed requests are confirmed for all reservations. Requests for two double beds will be on a first-come, first-served basis for reservations of two people in a room.
Dining![]() Guests of the hotel enjoy a complimentary Continental breakfast each morning. Spread - Playful, ultra-modern decor, a sociable bar, a Pan-Asian menu, and a sushi bar help make this a hot spot in the neighborhood. DJs are on duty on weekends. COAL - A cellar bar with dim lighting, COAL offers a fitting atmosphere for lively conversation well into the night. RoomsThis eight-story hotel has 100 guestrooms decorated in soft earth tones, with down duvets on the platform beds, and black-and-white prints of New York on the walls. Windows open for fresh air, and rooms have individual climate control. All rooms include CD players, dial-up Internet access, in-room safes, and complimentary weekday newspapers.
