Over 840 acres of landscaped and recreational areas: zoo, theater, sports facilities, lakes, food, entertainment.

Central Park , an 850-acre rectangle of recreational land, is located in the very center of Manhattan Island amidst the surrounding array of high-rise buildings. It contains jogging and bicycling trails, a zoo, a carriage drive, several lakes and open fields, numerous playgrounds and statues. Millions of New Yorkers come to this park every day to relax and play.

You can tour the park in a horse-drawn carriage, by bicycle or afoot. You can even ride a horse or rent a rowboat. You can eat at several fine restaurants or at hundreds of inexpensive food carts serving those famous New York hot dogs. Enjoy a leisurely stroll along the many pathways and watch the New Yorkers relax and play. Visit the "Strawberry Fields" memorial to John Lennon near the place where he lived and ultimately died at the hands of a disturbed gunman

In the summer, the New York Public Theater performs "Shakespeare in the Park". The Metropolitan Opera and the New York Philharmonic Symphony offer free performances in the park. Commercial productions featuring world-renowned performers often draw huge crowds in Central Park.
