New York City NightclubsSanctumAn exclusive club with all the trappings tucked neatly inside the Tribeca Grand. Crowded - yes
The SceneThe club's minimalist design forces attention on the details: the thoughtful drink list, impeccable service and carefully chosen DJs. Around midnight, a young, hip crowd filters in. Were it not for the presence of attentive waitresses and subtly expensive furnishings, you'd mistake the place for a trendy friend's den. Several Sputnik-inspired chandeliers dimly light the dark wood room, rimmed with low-slung couches and chairs. Given the exclusive environs, come prepared to drop a name at the door. The DrawDrinks get their due attention. In addition to bottle service and choice of rum, single malt and cognac flights, the lengthy menu features cocktails created by the famed mixologist Sasha Petraske--including a sweet alcoholic version of Thai iced tea and a ginger-tinged Pimm's Rangoon. DJs handpicked by Tommy Saleh (who pushed the adjacent Church Lounge into electro haute couture status) turn out sets to please even the most jaded music lover. The ExtrasTry the edamame bowl for a light accompaniment to several of the Asian-inspired drinks, such as the wasabi-spiced Bloody Mary. When to GoOn Monday nights, DJ Blue mashes it up, layering records that might normally be thought incompatible (folk and hip-hop or country and electronica) for a unique set. 2 6th Ave |
