New York City NightclubsClub ShelterNYC's longest running after-hours event finally comes home.
The SceneShelter-producers Kevin Hedge, Timmy Regisford and Freddy Sanon have supplied the city with one of its most reliable soulful house weeklies for over a decade, most recently at Vinyl. Now that they've acquired a space of their own in the former Speeed, they continue to celebrate the old-school aesthetic--with graffitied walls and spare, warehouse-like dance floors (particularly in the basement and third floor), as well as ample lounge areas and a roof deck. True to a dancer's haven, the only perceptible dress code is donning clothes comfortable for dancing. The DrawWhile the club books talented spinners to start the weekend, its trademark night remains Saturday's Shelter party--reminiscent of the late-'80s Chicago house music scene. Veteran resident DJ Regisford ensures top-notch music for the mature, racially and sexually diverse dancing attendees--who fill the place by 5am and keep the party going till noon. 20 W 39th St |
